Iraq and World Bank discussed another grid financing package

The August report describes project priorities under discussion, without a new loan approval or disbursement.

Iraqi News reported on 20 August that the electricity ministry and World Bank had discussed a possible new loan for grid work. According to its account of a ministry statement, the meeting covered transmission bottlenecks, network efficiency, gas supply and interconnection with Gulf countries, as well as projects under an existing loan.

A discussion of candidate projects is an early financing stage. The report does not establish World Bank approval, a signed agreement, disbursement or an open tender. Its national supply and demand estimates are omitted here pending comparison with dated operating data and consistent definitions.

A formal project identification or appraisal record, financing decision and procurement notice would be the next distinct milestones for suppliers and analysts.
