EIA records uneven US crude imports from Iraq during September

Weekly figures range from zero to 51,000 barrels a day across the four September reporting weeks.

US crude-oil imports from Iraq averaged 46,000 barrels a day in the week ending 4 September and 51,000 in the week ending 18 September, according to the Energy Information Administration’s weekly series released on 30 September. The weeks ending 11 and 25 September recorded zero.

The observations are weekly daily averages, reported in thousands of barrels a day. They show arrivals fluctuating between reporting weeks; they do not measure Iraq’s exports to all destinations or establish the reason for the changes.

The weekly series is distinct from the EIA’s lagged monthly country-of-origin statistics. A zero in a particular reporting week should not be read as a halt in Iraq’s overall oil trade.
