Ramadi marks construction start for 100 affordable homes

The EU-supported BEIT project also includes a centre for green building technologies.

A foundation-stone ceremony in Ramadi on 17 September marked the start of construction of 100 affordable housing units and a Green Building Technologies Centre, UN-Habitat reported on 27 September.

The development is part of the European Union-funded BEIT programme. Its planned building measures include improved thermal performance and renewable-energy features, with the technology centre intended to support the use of more sustainable construction methods.

The announcement concerns the construction stage. The homes have not been presented as completed or handed over, and the planned energy features should be read as design commitments rather than measured operating savings.
