Newbury signs ten-year agreement for 40 hospital products in Iraq

The company’s exclusive commercial rights remain subject to licensing and product registration.

Newbury Pharmaceuticals announced on 28 September that its subsidiary had secured ten-year exclusive rights to register, market and sell 40 pharmaceutical products in Iraq from an unnamed Chinese manufacturer.

The portfolio centres on injectable products for hospital and acute care. Newbury said it intended to supply the products under its own brands.

The company had applied for the required Iraqi pharmaceutical licence, with registrations to proceed product by product. The agreement does not establish that the medicines are already approved or available for sale in Iraq.

The Iraq strategy described here is a staged market entry through a subsidiary and a hospital-focused product portfolio. The ten-year commercial agreement defines the opportunity, while licensing and individual registrations determine which products can actually enter the Iraqi market.
