Iraq prepares for hydrographic cooperation talks with UK office

A revised draft memorandum is being readied for direct negotiations with the UKHO.

Iraq’s Transport Ministry is preparing for direct talks with the UK Hydrographic Office on technical cooperation, Iraq Business News reported on 30 September, citing the ministry.

A committee reviewed a revised draft memorandum of understanding covering hydrographic capabilities, training and technical expertise. The work is connected to Iraq’s participation in the International Hydrographic Organization. The report describes preparations for negotiations, rather than a signed memorandum.

There are two institutional tracks: the proposed bilateral work with the UK Hydrographic Office, and Iraq’s participation in the International Hydrographic Organization. The former concerns a specific cooperation proposal; membership of the latter does not itself mean that proposal has been agreed.
