The Iraqi Oil Tankers Company has completed economic and feasibility studies for acquiring large crude carriers, according to Oil Ministry statements reported by 964media on 6 October. Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair said the ministry was working with the government to secure the necessary allocation.
Company director-general Ali Qais Abdul-Jabbar said the purchase programme could proceed after approval. The ministry also reported about 2 million barrels carried in recent operations, providing a measure of resumed activity rather than the capacity of the proposed fleet.
The disclosed stage is completed studies and a funding request. The announcement identifies neither an approved acquisition budget nor a shipyard or seller, vessel count, delivery schedule or signed purchase contract.
