Iraq and Huawei discuss a technical assessment of port systems

A planned specialist visit will examine requirements following Iraqi transport officials’ meetings in China.

Iraq’s Transport Ministry has discussed port digitisation and logistics systems with Huawei and Uruk Engineering Services, Iraq Business News reported on 29 September, citing the ministry.

An Iraqi delegation attended Huawei Connect in Shanghai and visited Tianjin Port to examine automation in operation. The parties agreed that Huawei specialists would visit Iraq’s Directorate of Maritime Transport and Ports to assess technical and operating requirements.

The proposed assessment is an early step towards defining possible work. The report announces no procurement award, contract value or installation timetable. Its significance is the identification of potential technology needs, with any funded implementation still to be established.

Huawei’s role in this report is to assess technology and operating requirements with the Iraqi counterparts. That places the initiative at the definition-of-scope stage: the assessment could clarify what systems are needed, but its existence does not establish a buyer’s procurement decision.
